Comfort
What happens if it rains the day of my fishing charter?
A little Maine rain doesn't usually change our plans—mountains and lakes are beautiful in any weather. Since our fishing boats are equipped with covered areas and we provide quality gear, you'll stay comfortable. If severe winds make the water unsafe, we'll contact you to reschedule.
What happens if it rains the day of my moose tour?
A little Maine rain doesn't stop our moose tours—in fact, moose are often more active during rainy or overcast weather. We recommend dressing in layers and bringing a light rain jacket if rain is in the forecast. If weather conditions become unsafe, we'll contact you to discuss rescheduling, but a rainy morning can often make for an unforgettable wildlife experience.
What if I need a restroom during the tour?
Your comfort is our priority! While we're exploring the remote backwoods of the Maine woods, there are a couple of campgrounds along our route with clean facilities. On the lake, we can easily pull into a nearby dock or use facilities on the boat. Just let your guide know!
What should I bring on a fishing charter?
We recommend bringing layers, comfortable clothing, soft soled shoes, polarized sunglasses , and suncscreen, if you have them. Don't forget your camera! We provide all the fishing gear, but feel free to bring your favorite snacks and beverages to stay fueled and comfortable.
What should I bring on a moose tour?
To make the most of your Maine adventure, we recommend dressing in comfortable layers and wearing comfortable, closed-toe shoes. Don't forget your camera or smartphone—you never know when a memorable wildlife encounter will happen! Feel free to bring your favorite snacks and beverages to enjoy along the way. If you have a pair of binoculars, bring them along to enhance your wildlife viewing experience, although many of our best sightings are close enough to enjoy right from the vehicle.
Can children come?
Absolutely! Some of our favorite guides started as young guests. Watching a child's excitement when they spot their first moose or feel the tug of a fish is magic. We adjust our pace to keep the little ones engaged and excited throughout the trip.
Wildlife & Safety
Are dogs allowed?
As much as we love dogs, we ask that pets stay home for everyone's safety. Moose naturally recognize dogs as predators, and even the scent, movement, or bark of a dog can change their behavior or reduce wildlife viewing opportunities. Our goal is to observe wildlife naturally, without causing unnecessary stress or disturbance, while providing the safest experience possible for our guests.
When is the best time to see moose?
The early morning and evening hours are often considered the "golden hours" for moose activity, which is why many of our tours begin before sunrise. But one thing we've learned over the years is that moose don't always follow a schedule. We've been fortunate to enjoy incredible sightings throughout the day, including midday. Understanding moose behavior, knowing the habitats they frequent, and spending years exploring the remote Maine woods all play an important role in creating those unforgettable wildlife encounters.
Can we get out of the vehicle on a moose tour?
For the safety of both our guests and the wildlife, we do not leave the vehicle during moose sightings. The Maine woods are the moose's home, and we believe in observing them respectfully without disturbing their natural behavior. In most cases, we're able to get close enough for wonderful photographs and memorable viewing while remaining safely inside the vehicle. Our goal is to leave every moose exactly as we found it—wild, undisturbed, and free to simply be a moose.
How close do you get to the moose?
Every moose encounter is unique, so there isn't a set distance. Our goal is to provide the best possible viewing opportunity while always respecting the animal's space and natural behavior. Many times, we're fortunate to enjoy incredible close-up views and wonderful photo opportunities right from the comfort of the vehicle. We never pressure or pursue wildlife, allowing each encounter to happen naturally and safely—for both our guests and the moose.
Fishing
Is there a bathroom on the fishing boat?
While our boat does not have a built-in marine restroom, we do provide a private onboard portable restroom with a privacy enclosure for your comfort. We understand this is an important consideration, and we've made every effort to ensure guests have a clean, discreet, and comfortable option while enjoying their time on the water.
Where can I rent fishing gear for a guided trip in Moosehead Lake?
Most of our guided trips include all the essential fishing gear you’ll need, including rods, reels, and basic tackle.
Can we keep the fish we catch?
Absolutely! If your catch is within Maine's fishing regulations, you're welcome to keep your fish. Many guests enjoy taking home fresh lake trout or landlocked salmon to share with family and friends, while others choose to release their catch. The decision is yours, and we're happy to help you understand the current regulations and properly care for any fish you decide to keep.
What if we don't catch fish?
Sharing a day on Moosehead Lake is always a win. While years of experience help us put guests in the best locations and use proven techniques, fishing is still called "fishing" for a reason—nature always has the final say. If the fish aren't cooperating, you'll still enjoy a memorable day on the water filled with beautiful scenery, local knowledge, and time spent experiencing one of Maine's most iconic lakes.
